This campaign is born from the cooperation between the Administration of National Parks of Argentina, the Ministry of Ecology, Renewable Natural Resources and Tourism of the Misiones Province and Fundación Vida Silvestre Argentina (Argentine Wildlife Foundation), as part of their actions to protect this emblematic specie of our natural and cultural heritage.
The campaign is possible thanks to the support of the WWF network, with Fundación Vida Silvestre Argentina functioning as a WWF associate organization, and the Esso Foundation, through the Administration of National Parks. Also numerous media, provincial and national NGOs, park-rangers and volunteers adhere and collaborate. The General Council of Education of the Misiones Province and the Misiones Provincial Service of Private Education also participate, through the School Contest that is developed in the province.
The Administration of National Parks of Argentina
The Argentine state has to guarantee the preservation of the natural and cultural heritage, through sustainable use of resources, so that the activities that are developed in the present do not jeopardize the future and the collective interests of society are protected. It is for that reason that the national state must maintain, develop and manage a National System of Protected Areas (SNAP), as one of the fundamental tools of conservation for the subsistence of the biological diversity, and the natural and cultural heritages of Argentina. The Administration of National Parks of Argentina is the organisation that plans and carries out - with national and international scope - the conservation of the biological and cultural diversity of the protected areas under its jurisdiction. The institution works towards an integrated development that focuses on the sustainable use of resources, on the creation of values, and the incorporation of the society in its activities. http://www.parquesnacionales.gov.ar/
The Ministry of Ecology Renewalble Natural Resources and Tourism of Misiones.
Misiones was the first province of Argentina with an institution that addressed environmental and forestry issues at the ministerial level. This reflects commitment and concrete efforts of the people and the government to protect the environment, and to guide a rational exploitation of its natural resources. The Provincial System of Natural Protected Areas, with an approximated area of 450,000 hectares, comprises provincial parks, natural reserves and a Biosphere reserve. On the other hand, and as a symbiosis of the two main areas of the Ministry, the Ecology and the Forests under-secretariats, the Special Unit for the Management of the Green Corridor (“Corredor Verde de Misiones”) was created. The Corredor Verde of Misiones´ creation law (Provincial Law Nº 3631) was approved at the end of 1.999 and it seeks to secure the connectivity of the forest remnants (1.110.000 hectares) under both private and public ownership. http://www.misiones.gov.ar/ecologia
Fundación Vida Silvestre Argentina (Argentina Wildlife Foundation)
Fundación Vida Silvestre Argentina (FVSA) is a non-profit, non-governmental organization for the public good that was created in 1977. Its mission is to promote the conservation of Argentina’s biological diversity and natural resources, to change consumption patterns that harm them and to support sustainable development. The Foundation is characterized by its work focused on concrete results that are based on an interdisciplinary dialogue. From 1988 on, it is associated to and represents the WWF network in Argentina. With its presence in 96 countries, the WWF is one of the biggest and most prestigious independent organizations of conservation in the world. FVSA has worked in the Upper Paraná Atlantic Forest for more than 10 years. In 1.999 it opened a regional office in Puerto Iguazú, base of the Upper Paraná Atlantic Forest Conservation Program. From this location it works to achieve that nature in the whole ecoregion is conserved and its resources are used rationally, in harmony with the needs and wishes of its people and future generations. www.vidasilvestre.org.ar
